Take a moment and take a stance with your feet hip-width apart. Bend forward at the waist reaching the crown of your head forward and down, allowing the weight of your upper body to hang, as if held by an imaginary sling under your hips.
Hamstrings run up and down the back of the legs and connect to the hips, that connect to the back, which connects to the neck. In order to keep our bodies aligned (neck above back, back above hips, hips above knees, and knees above feet), we much keep our hamstrings stretched. Left untended, hamstrings get very uptight and cause the body to draw towards the center. Looser hamstrings allow freedom in movement of the body while keeping it aligned.
DO IT REGULARLY. YOU WILL FEEL BETTER. It does not matter how far you go or what you are wearing while doing it. All that matters is that you are doing it; Stretching shows you care for your body. Try a yoga class to explore other ways to stretch your hamstrings.
